Pregnancy with PCOS is possible!

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition where a woman’s ovary grows cysts. These cysts make it too hard to form a baby. It is one of the most common causes of female infertility.

However, it’s possibly to get pregnant even with PCOS! Most women will possibly be able to conceive with a combination of diet, lifestyle changes and fertility drugs. Though some women with PCOS may need IVF, the great majority can get pregnant using lower-tech fertility treatments.

Here are few options for you and your doctor to try:

  • Restart ovulation by weight loss

Majority of women with PCOS struggle hard with obesity. Because PCOS negatively changes how your body processes insulin, which, in turn, can cause weight gain.

One of the important reasons women with PCOS can’t conceive is they have improper ovulation, no ovulation. Women with PCOS who are fat are likely to experience more severe anovulation between periods.

Studies say that losing some of the extra weight can bring back ovulation. And losing 5 to 10 percent of your weight may be enough to kickstart your menstrual cycles.

You might need fertility drugs. Research suggests that women who lost weight have a good probability of having successful fertility treatment. If you’re resistant to insulin, take Metformin, a diabetes drug can cure the insulin resistance and may help you lose some extra pounds. It may also help you get pregnant.

2) Diet and exercise

Having a healthy diet is extremely important for women with PCOS. This is probably due to the higher risk of becoming fat, and partially due to messed up insulin regulation.

Studies claim that low carb diet is a best option. So make sure your diet has nutrient-rich foods, proteins and low sugar foods. Avoiding processed and junk food is a good challenge for you.

  • Your breakfast should be big and dinner small
  • Eat more protein and green vegetables.
  • Eat complex carbs like whole grain atta and beans.
  • Use healthy oils of olive, rice bran and nuts for cooking.

Along with diet, regular exercise is necessary for improving symptoms. A healthy lifestyle can helpful to your fertility treatments. Like weight loss, it’s worth it if you want to get pregnant.

3) Metformin

Metformin is a diabetic medication to treat insulin resistance. It is also prescribed to women with PCOS. It is pretty safe and women with PCOS may get pregnant.

  • Help in weight loss
  • Regularize menstrual cycles
  • Increase the effectiveness of few fertility drugs
  • Decrease the rate of repeat miscarriages.

4) Letrozole for fertility

Letrozole, aka Femara, isn’t a fertility drug but is often used as one for women with PCOS. It is basically a cancer medication. However, studies found that it can be more effective than Clomid to stimulate ovulation in women with PCOS.

Don’t be afraid by the fact that the drug is originally known as a cancer drug. The side effects are very mild, and it has been thoroughly researched in women trying to get pregnant.
